My family came from the Midwest to visit me and to meet my husband, who was unable to travel. There were 18 people! They rented both Font Break and Rear break in the Mississippi neighborhood. We were there with them everyday. I have stayed in many Airbnbs in my time and this was by far two of the best I have ever seen. The attention to detail was impressive. I was especially amazed at how well equipped the kitchens were! I know my family was very comfortable there. They all commented on how comfortable the beds were! I would recommend Shift Vacation Rentals to anyone!
Great location - walk to restaurants, bars, and shops but still enjoy privacy and quiet. The rental is thoughtfully designed and equipped, comfortable and cute! Parking was very close and convenient. Michelle was very friendly, helpful, and prompt. We loved staying at your place. Thank you!
We came up for our daughter’s wedding and rented both houses for our extended family. I couldn’t have been better! Inside each of the houses was well stocked & comfortable. But the real gem for us was the outdoor living space! A front porch to relax & people watch, and the great table between the houses fit all of us for many evenings of merriment. The kids loved the dart board! The location was close to all our planned events and the local area contained all the restaurants, bars, and coffee houses to suit every taste. Thank you SO much Michelle and Klaas - we definitely will be back!
We were 7 adults and a baby traveling to Portland for our daughters wedding. Front Break was perfect for us. Plenty of room for everyone. We were very pleased with all the provided amenities. Not having to haul a crib, high chair and stroller on the plane was a big plus and FYI the portable crib fits perfectly in the little storage area!
The location is perfect! Everywhere we needed to go was no more that 10 minutes away. That includes downtown Portland and the airport. We enjoyed walking up and down Mississippi every day and trying new restaurants although the taco truck right next door was hard to beat!
Being from an area with wide open space I was concerned when the house only had 1 door to exit on the main floor. However the basement did provide egress windows in both bedrooms.
We would most definitely stay again. Oh did I mention that this was mid March with 70 degree sunshine filled days for an entire week?!
We had staff attending a conference in Portland and this was the perfect place to stay. Everyone had their own bedroom which isn't always easy to find when looking for housing for a group. Everyone enjoyed the house and its amenities. We'll definitely think of this house the next time we have a group of people staying in Portland for business.
We came to Portland with 7 adults to see a concert and visit our son.
The house was perfect! Very clean! Easy check in!! With in walking distance of several restaurants, bars and shopping. The kitchen was extremely well stocked and we even had a bottle of wine and snacks to great us! And yummy chocolates in the fridge, such a nice touch. The downstairs living room was perfect for those who wanted to stay up later. We are looking forward to coming back this summer!
We converged on Portland from Seattle, Ann Arbor, Cincinnati and Palo Alto. We didn't let rain, snow, ice nor cancelled aircraft keep us from our holiday get together. And we were overjoyed with the rental. The apartment was spacious and we never felt cramped even with the snow and ice in Portland the first few days that kept us inside more than we expected.
The kitchen was perfect for preparing our holiday meals with a large dining room table where we could eat and laugh together. The living room provided the space for our traditional December one-per night watching of this years release of the Great British Baking Show.
Loved the neighborhood, and the city. Great options for food and drink, and the people were always friendly. Portland is a winner! We will certainly try to visit again, and would most definitely try to stay in one of the Shift Vacation rentals.
The Ready-Barr family had not been together since Christmas 2018. Since one daughter lived in Portland, we decided to rent a small house for six nights to act as a base camp for the four family members visiting from Albuquerque in mid October, 2022. That house happened to be the Low Gear portion of the Alberta house. This accommodation proved to be very clean and an outstanding selection. The house consisted of three bedrooms with super comfortable beds, one and a half bathrooms with a very nice shower, a well furnished large open space for family meetings and watching TV, a large solidly built table to have dinner around and a very well equipped kitchen for the food and drink prep. Low Gear happened to be in a funky neighborhood with lots of eating out possibilities and a very well stocked Co-op grocery on the next corner. We were concerned about parking our rental car on the street in this busy commercial part of town, but always found an open spot within 100 yards of the Low Gear. We were super impressed going through the photo album in the unit and seeing how Michelle and Klaas had remodeled an old run down single story house to create this beautiful three story Alberta house. They actually raised the entire house up about four feet creating enough space underneath the main house to construct a garden level apartment, i.e. the Low Gear unit. This unorthodox design and construction technique allowed Shift Vacation Rental to create a beautiful living space. We plan to stay with Shift Vacation Rental on our next visit to Portland. Well done Michelle and Klaas !!
Our family stayed in Front Break, Rear Break, and Low Gear for a wedding weekend and it was perfect. The Mississippi houses are well-outfitted with all amenities (including coffee grinder) and are close walking distance to restaurants, while the Alberta house's big advantage is its walking distance to Alberta Co-op grocery store. We loved being able to gather the folks from Front Break into Rear Break for a large gathering of both houses; the space was great for this. The power went out in Low Gear after heavy winds and they alerted us of this and brought over candles and flashlights right away. We also met Klaas and he was very sweet. You can tell the owners care about their guests' satisfaction.
We decided on a long weekend trip to Portland and Rear Break proved to be the ideal accommodation. This spacious, beautiful home provided more than enough room for the nine people in our party. The full kitchen and dining area served as our main gathering place. Comfortable beds, three bathrooms and laundry facilities -- this really is an ideal home away from home. Michelle and Klaas are excellent hosts who take great care to make sure their guests have a memorable stay at their immaculate, welcoming home.
