Welcome to Shift Vacation Rental’s Mississippi District location! We have a stunning urban oasis; a few minutes walk from the fun and trendy N Mississippi District. This neighborhood has become one of the hippest places to shop, dine and drink in Portland. The street is lined with chic foodie restaurants, live music venues, and a bevy of bars, boutiques and brewpubs. Colorful buildings line the main thoroughfare of Mississippi, while historic and charming residential neighborhoods surround the area.
This brand new modern home will be beyond your expectations. Flooded with light and handmade touches this house is ideal for large groups. The house was built as a vacation rental and set up perfectly for people to gather and relax in. As you enter a wall of windows and warm cedar wood surround draws you in. Everything you need from a coffee grinder and maker, to cookie sheets and blenders are all provided for you.
We are thrilled to have the main floor as ADA (those with wheelchairs, walkers, crutches or impaired mobility will be able to get around). We were in Portland for a family wedding so our family stayed in the back house while friends stayed in the front house. It was a perfect situation! We could walk to stores, restaurants, coffee shops and had plenty of space to hang out together. I highly recommend this property for a large group or family event!
The Rear Break was the perfect place to stay for our girls’ trip to Portland! There were five of us and the house was lovely and well designed for sharing. We enjoyed the Mississippi District experience and it was great having so much within walking distance. We would definitely recommend it. We do agree with another reviewer that it would be nice to have shades on the living area windows to afford some privacy from the guests in the Front Break.
This property was an amazingly well built, quiet and beautiful set up, indoors and out during my daughters wedding week. The entire bridal party and family were able to stay in the two houses and we couldn’t, have asked for a better place to stay! It was quiet, fully stocked and then some, more than large enough and in a great location near coffee houses, eateries, food trucks and bars! The rooms were all comfortable, beds comfortable, bathrooms larger than most and the decor en pointe! I would recommend this home to anyone I know and definitely stay there again, especially with a large group! What a well constructed and comfortable home! Was fun to meet Klaus, the owner, too!
We do a lot of vacation rentals, and these properties top our list for quality and comfort. We rented both houses for four nights for out of town family and friends who joined us for our daughter's wedding. The kitchens are very well appointed (sharp knives!), the beds are comfy, and the houses are quiet. Each house has multiple common areas, which makes for good adult conversation and fun kid play. Mississippi Avenue is just steps away, and there was an awesome street fair one day. I would recommend both or either house to anyone.
The “Rear Break” House was absolutely as advertised and pictured!
Six of us decided to hold our annual women’s retreat in Portland. This home accommodated us exceptional well; 5 bedrooms and three baths. All the beds were great, the home was well appointed & had everything we needed. Portland is a beautiful city with an emphasis on recycling and improving the environment. The Rex Hill, Pinot Nior was superb! Thank you, Fran, Vivian, Mary, Susan, Carole and Connie
We had a family vacation with people coming from all over the country. Comfortable and spacious
Four of us rented Rear Break for a girlfriend's weekend. It was perfect! We each had our own room, the shared spaces were comfortable and the location was really fun.
The only suggestion we have for the owners is it would be nice to be able to pull curtains across the front windows for privacy from Front Break.
A complete gem, we were so happy to have discovered this fantastic property in the heart of one of Portland’s most hip neighborhoods and just a few blocks from our wedding venue! We stayed with 16 of our immediate family members and rented both houses. It was the perfect place to have dinners together and share our excitement about the wedding and the beautiful city of Portland!
The property owners and manager left a sweet card for us wishing us a splendid wedding day and whenever we needed anything - no matter the time of day - they would respond within moments. Every guest was happy and comfortable and even with the large number of occupants, we were able to tuck away into little quiet spaces when we needed them. The decor was enlivening and the space so welcoming. We would choose this location again hands down.
We were over the moon happy with our stay! Thanks so much!
Erin & Alex
great house and location. was worried about the distance between the back and front house but it wasn't an issue at all. the house was perfect with great amenities. We had 9 people and it was very comfortable
Loved the area, loved how convenient it was for just exploring on foot. Beds were very comfortable. Had a great family reunion and graduation get together and it was nice to have the space to hang out outside as well!! Thanks so much for a great trip!
Would stay there again. Great location especially if going to Moda Center or Pearl district. Neighborhood is funky and fun. House was clean comfortable and well stocked. Loved the modern decor.
We rented Rear Break for my daughter’s wedding weekend. The house was so well laid out, great ambiance w a fun flair and walking distance to several eateries, pubs and coffee shops. Most important - comfy beds! The owners were very responsive and accommodating; several of our guests said they were coming back to Portland and wanted to stay at Rear Break again!!!
We spent a week at this wonderful home. It is in a great neighborhood and we were able to walk to shops, restaurants, bars and food trucks. It is also a quick drive or Uber to downtown. The house is comfortably decorated and well equipped with dishes and kitchen needs. The pantry was stocked with various items including spices on our arrival. The space worked well for our extended family of 10. I wish we could have enjoyed the great outdoor space a little more but we had a cool weather week. I would highly recommend staying in this home if you are planning a visit to Portland.
We were 3 families (6 adults, 6 children under 11 yrs old) who spent 5 nights in the Rear Break property.
What a modern and inviting space for both the kids and adults to enjoy! The open concept kitchen and dining area was well-used and the large dining table was perfect for meals, snacks, and games. A fully stocked kitchen had everything our large party needed for cooking the occasional meal. Good sized rooms and 3 bathrooms for each our families to use. The kids especially loved the two hammocks and eventually took over the upper floor living area and claimed it as theirs.
The neighbourhood has a walk score of 90+, with bars, shops and restaurants (ie. blue star donuts and tasty & sons) within walking distance. I managed to get in a run every morning and found the area extremely safe with some cool nearby neighbourhoods (Alameda, Alberta Arts, Lloyd districts) to explore within a 5 mile radius. Driving to downtown Portland took less than 10 mins during non-rush hours. While there was only 1 parking spot for property, we never had any issues finding street parking for 3 vehicles in the evenings.
Whitney (Property Manager) and Michelle (Owners) were both very responsive prior to the trip and we were pleasantly surprised to receive a nice welcome card and some delicious treats from Whitney upon arrival (Thank you!).
The only reason we deducted 0.5 from the rating was that we felt the property could have been dusted a bit more (ie. accumulated dust on the baseboards and some of the carpets), which we shared with Michelle, and they have assured us that they have taken extra steps with their cleaners to improve this for any future stays.
All in all, I’d highly recommend this property for travelling families with children. Thanks again for great memories in Portland! We would visit again!
We stayed at the Rear Break for a conference that we were attending in Portland. Everything about the house was fabulous - it was modern (very HGTV!), clean, and extremely well provisioned. The beds were very comfortable. The house was walking distance to great restaurants, shops, and pubs. The area was quiet, relaxing, and perfect for 2 college professors and 4 grad students. The owners were very responsive and lots of information about the area was provided in the welcome binder. I would definitely consider renting both houses for a family reunion!
Group of 15 professionals shared the entire property. Interior design of Front and Rear Breaks were very welcoming and like walking into your own home.
Beds are comfortable and got the much needed rest after attending day long hands on training all week long.
Looking forward to booking again for next years conference.
This beautiful modern house was in immaculate condition, I felt very cozy. Our team of five came in For an event, and this five bedroom house did not feel crowded at all. The neighborhood is nice with great restaurants close by, and very close to downtown.
Loved, loved this property for our annual college girlfriend get away. Great space to hang out and visit. Plenty of room for everyone to get ready. Walking distance to many great shops and eateries. Lyft prices great to those areas that were to far to travel by foot. Responsive to questions via email. All in all an amazing trip! Definitely great place to stay!
The space was great, loved the modern decor. The neighborhood is great and very walkable. Everyone was very comfortable here! The owners were very responsive by email. I saw someone complained about the leftover food in the fridge but we were happy to find condiments and beer 🙂 My only complaint is that we never found the pump for the air mattress, but didn't end up needing it anyway.
Awesome property, I was a little concerned about having the space available for the 10 guest, social hour, but was worried for no reason. Thank you, we had an awesome time enjoying your home!!!
Believe me when I say when you see these houses you feel like you just stepped foot into some sort of reality tv show!! They are amazing!!!!! Words can’t describe how awesome these pads are!!! We rented both the front and rear break for a guys weekend and it houses 15 of us no problem at all! Plenty of room for personal space and yet enough room to have all of us together comfortably! We honestly can’t wait to come back!!!
This was a very nice place to stay. We were in town for a wedding and 2 families (total of 9) stayed here. There was enough space and it was decorated very nice. I loved the area! Lots of restaurants and bars to walk to.
I took my team for an overnight retreat in Portland and this house was absolutely perfect for the 7 of us. The hammock chairs were so relaxing and fun, we enjoyed them and it sparked ideas for us with some people we support on the Autism Spectrum who would love them. The house is impressive when it comes to accessibility. We support adults with disabilities and it was awesome to find a home so thoughtfully prepared to accommodate an individual in a wheelchair. Wish we could have stayed longer. I will be recommending this home to families, friends, people we support, co-workers, and other organizations similar to ours. The location is wonderful as well close to businesses. Definitely planning on returning.
We had a group of 9 girls flying in from all over. This house was a perfect location from the airport and just a 7 minute drive into downtown. The space was great for all of us to hang out together in the common space and share some food at the large table. Every detail was thought of. I loved that there were umbrellas to use too so we could walk to he local places easily. We walked to the corner coffee shop each morning. The owners were great to work with and responsive. Will definitely be staying here again. Portland was such a fun place to- lots more to see.
This home was beautiful and perfect for our group of 12. There was plenty of space. Everything was very clean when we arrived and directions and instructions were very easy and exactly as described. We would definitely rent again and highly recommend!
Both the owners and the manager were very hospitable and responsive. The owners even stopped by to say hello and drop off some Christmas cookies, which was very sweet!
The bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry and other amenities were just as described, no surprises. There were plenty of needed items (paper towels, trash bags, dish towels, etc.) on hand, which isn't always the case and this was very helpful to us, as we were all traveling a distance and arriving late in the day.
Having living space on two floors made the house seem very roomy and worked well, even with a 7-month old baby! The kitchen area was very nice and just what we were looking for--a place to gather, cook and talk together. We had a wonderful Christmas in Portland.
There was one issue that might be on us, as non-Portland folks. The refrigerator and cupboards had lots of food in them when we arrived. I understand not wanting to waste perfectly good food, and for the most part it was "okay"--unopened butter or sour cream (which we didn't need) for example--but some was not appealing to look at or not what we eat and there were definitely opened packages of dry goods --crackers and chips and even refrigerated items. On the other hand, it was nice to have some spices and such available. I think someone could go over the left-behind food with a more discerning eye and find a place to donate some items to, rather than leave them for subsequent guests to maneuver around. Am I too East Coast? (I got used to the composting--will bring that habit home, so maybe that evens things out?)
We would definitely recommend this home to others with a large group needing space to gather and a good location for exploring the Portland area (assuming no ice storms!). Thanks!
It could not have been a better time. Wonderful neighbourhood and the house was everything we hoped for.
Our company rented but the Front and Back Break for a conference. It was a perfect location for our staff to enjoy time away from the conference and it also worked great for a company party that we hosted for our customers. Would definitely recommend this property.
This house was ideal for our group of 10 visitors to Portland. Beds were comfortable!, the appliances were new and high end, the washer and dryer came in vert handy, and there were plenty of supplies to meet all of our needs. The owners were friendly and very responsive when we contacted them. Good food and shopping are on,y a couple streets away. We loved this place!
Comfortable, tasteful, and well-equipped home conveniently located in the Mississippi neighborhood. Loved exploring during the day and coming home to hang out and play games at night. Nine of us stayed comfortably and hope to do it again next year!
Great house near breweries, coffee shops, and a taco truck!
there was plenty of room for everyone. We traveled with a baby and were happy to find a pack and play and a stroller. The location is great with an amazing coffee shop just a couple doors down and a whole street of food just south of the house. We loved playing darts and visiting with friends. Highly recommended!
The location of these properties is exceptional. The neighborhood has many areas of interest and places to walk and shop. Being a great urban location, naturally parking is a bit of a problem. We were always able to find places and the house comes with a space, but at times it was a challenge
We needed the right house for my husband who has mobility problems, the right house for my 2 year old granddaughter, the right house for hanging out, and the right house for all of us to sit down and eat together. This house was just perfect for all of the above and more. For my granddaughter there was a bed, a high chair, and lots of toys. The house has a great open floor plan so that we could all hang out, cook together, and eat together. The upstairs layout was also very good and very useful with four bedrooms and two bathrooms. Almost forgot - great outdoor space also! Definitely deserves the 5 stars I gave it.
It was a very nice home with lots of room to entertain in. Had been newly remodeled and was very modern. The home was behind another home so the back home was very quit and felt very safe. I would go back and stay again. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is that the BBQ listed is fueled by coal. We did not bring any coal and checked in very late. We used the electric range to cook our steaks however, the range hood was not working very well so we had to open all the windows and doors for it to clear out. Would have been nice to have a propane BBQ.
I had my bridesmaids as well as some family stay here for my wedding weekend. There were a total of 11 that stayed in the house. There's enough space for separation and a lot of seating for when we want to hang out together. None of us were stepping over each other. The dorm style upstairs is really cool. The kids loved the bunk bed and the hammocks as well as the toys in the upstairs living room. The air conditioning was a great touch considering it was ~90 degrees when we visited.
Have I mentioned the food truck next door?! TASTY! Taco truck aside, the house is a couple blocks away from Mississippi that has a TON of great food, bars, and shops. We definitely recommend going to Ruby Jewel for ice cream, Blue Star for donuts, and Miss Delta for some southern comfort food! There's a food truck cluster over by Prost! which is a great place to eat and drink as well. The best part is that it's all within a 10 min walk from the house!
TL;DR - Group booking? Stay here! You won't regret it.
We thoroughly enjoyed our family get together in Portland and staying at this site. As advertised, it is close to many shops and eating places and parks. The property is well maintained and the manager was easily accessible. The outdoor eating space was great. The kitchen generally had all of the equipment we needed to cook and there were some toys and games around.
All in all the 8 adults and 4 kids enjoyed it!
My daughter recently got married in Portland and we decided to rent both the Front Break and the Rear Break. We thoroughly enjoyed both homes, which served our purposes extremely well. We had enough bedrooms and bathrooms for all of our family and the facility was a perfect setting for our event. We had a family get together on one of the evenings and took full advantage of the outdoor courtyard. We bought a couple of pop-up tents, because we were worried about the weather, but it turned out, they weren't necessary. We even took advantage of the charcoal grill for our event. Everyone had a great time, much to the credit of these rentals. The only problem we experienced was with the refrigerator's freezer drawer in the Rear Break, which would only open half way, making it difficult to use. Other than that, everything else worked fine. Both houses are very nice and I would highly recommend them.
My daughter was getting married and we needed a place for out of town friends and family to enjoy our time together. The Rear Break was just perfect. It slept 5 couples easily and comfortably. Having a living room upstairs and downstairs allowed for some separation. The furnishings are adorable. We loved all the custom furniture: the dining table and bar. We loved how all the rooms were decorated! It was helpful to have laundry on sight too. When we arrived, we met the owners who were so friendly and helpful. We used the outdoor seating each night for cocktails and late night games. The location is wonderful. You can walk to coffee, ice cream and yummy food, music and cocktails. If you don't have transportation, the bus is near and the car services like Uber and Lyft are convenient. We loved the easy access on and off the freeway too. After a long day at the wedding venue, we looked forward to returning to our little oasis in Portland. I hope to visit this spot again and recommend others to enjoy this fabulous rental!
Oh my gosh, this house was perfect for our family wedding! It has a very cool vibe and the location was so fun. My 20-30 year old kids loved walking to stores and restaurants. We also had a 8 month old baby and the house had a high chair and pack in play. Our daughter's wedding was at the Oaks Pioneer Church. And then we had the Double Decker PDX take us to Plaza Del Toro for a gorgeous farm style dinner and dancing! It was a perfect trip! I would not change a thing! Also, I should mention that the groom's family stayed in the house right in front of the property so we were all together. It is a fabulous place!!
The property was perfect for our group and couldn't have asked for a better location. Thank you!
This was the perfect place for a family to get together and enjoy each other. The house is very clean and comfortable and the area is really great. I would definitely stay at the house again and would not hesitate to recommend to family and friends.
The rear break is a lovely spacious, modern home perfect for a group. My 5 sisters and I spent a long weekend here in April. We loved the modern, yet comfortable accommodations. We only cooked breakfast here because there are so many amazing restaurants in Portland, but the kitchen seemed to have whatever was needed. We spent a lot of time at the long table playing games and such. Nice to wander down the street to shops and restaurants. Everything was so accessible by car. Centrally located!
If you are considering renting this property for a large group, book it now! We recently had 9 adults stay in this home and it was PERFECT. The rooms were lovely and the common areas were great for entertaining. The owners provide more than enough linens, towels, and dishes for large groups. You do not have to bring a single thing! The location of the house is amazing- Lots of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Parking was never an issue. Commute to downtown in the morning (during rush hour) was actually a breeze and took only 10 minutes. I would highly recommend this property to anyone. The owners really put a lot of love and character into this place.
Our group visited for NCECA - a national ceramic conference. As a group of potters from MudFire in Atlanta GA we were pleased beyond belief with this property. I have rented many other properties for group travel and have never been so happy with a property's description and with the surrounding neighborhood - lots of walkable options to eat, shop, visit a dispensary, etc. Portland's transportation system is awesome, rental cars are cheap, lyft and uber are available. The neighborhood is cute, and the house is great. Lots of comfy seating options, dining room is big enough for all to eat together. Beds and bathrooms are spacious and all decor is modern, fresh, and inviting. I've never been so happy renting for a large group.
We rented Rear Break and Front Break for our families to be close to downtown wedding venue. Location is perfect . 5-10 minute Uber to wherever you need to go in Portland. Half a block walk to coffee shop and small grocery store on corner. Short walk to great bar called Prost. And a few blocks farther are other great bars, food trucks, places to eat in the cool Mississippi District. Now for the houses....... Great !!! Lots of room, well appointed spaces, well stocked kitchens and comfy beds. We enjoyed the contrast of the contemporary new Rear Break house with the traditional Front Break. Take the time to look at the coffee table books illustrating the building stages and transformation of the respective homes. The owners put in a lot of time, thought, effort and love and it shows. In addition, they are wonderful to work with. If you are spending a weekend in Portland, this is the place.
We spent Christmas here with our children and grandchildren. It is in a nice spot within walking distance to the Mississippi district. There is a great little local market nearby to get fresh produce and other essentials. Only one parking space is provided but street parking is not a problem in this location. We had a small problem while we were there and both the property manager and the owner were very responsive and came right over to address it even though it was right before Christmas. Although the square footage is clearly indicated on the listing we found it a bit tight in space for eight adults and three children. Pluses include a high chair, portacrib and stroller are provided. It is also nice that dry goods, condiments, etc can be left behind and may be found. We would recommend it for an in city location.
Renting this clean, modern home was the easiest process! The layout was perfect for a three generation family. Furnishings were ultra comfortable, well kept, and adorable. The icing on the cake was the book that chronicled the construction process. It was so obvious an unimaginable amount of sweat eaquity and pure love went into building this beautiful retreat. We could not help but feel blessed to have stayed in this piece of heaven in Portland.
This was perfect for our college reunion getaway - we had 7 people staying in 4 of the bedrooms and the house was plenty spacious. The place was fairly well maintained (light bulb over stove was not working) and very clean. There was adequate cookware for our dinners cooked at the property. The layout of a great room downstairs and then an additional sitting/TV area upstairs, meant that different groups of people could be doing separate things. The house is located within walking distance of the Mississippi District which has things from restaurants to Blue Star donuts! One small comment our group had was that it would have been nice to have had bedside lamps for reading, in addition to the ceiling mounted light in each bedroom. However, the consensus is that we would stay again if we came to Portland again.
Our stay here was great! Loved if for our Offsite. From the home, to the neighborhood, to the food and shopping available and close. We loved it!
We will be back.
We loved finding this house available at the last minute for our extended family to gather after a sudden loss. We so appreciated the kindness of the owners and the bottle of wine awaiting our arrival. 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths, washer/dryer, and plenty of gathering space made the place very livable. Great neighborhood too with lots of eateries. Only oddity was us and the folks in the rental house next door making eye contact thru their kitchen window into our living area. Some kind of privacy screen in the rear house to obstruct the one window would be welcome. Thank you for letting us have an early check-in too.
We loved the place and the neighborhood. It worked out great for our large group in Portland for a wedding. Plenty of space for get togethers. We absolutely recommend it!
We had a great time at rear break. It was a perfect choice and fit us really well. Close to town and had a coffee shop for breakfast within a 30 sec walk from the door.
My group of 10 had a fabulous stay here! We ran the Hood to Coast this past weekend and had originally booked hotel rooms for everyone in downtown Portland. We had a last minute change of heart and decided to peruse VRBO to see if there was a house that could accommodate us... well lo and behold, this beauty popped up and I'm so thankful we found it... It's seriously the best possible lodging for a group of 10-12 people. 5 beds plus a long comfy couch made for very luxurious sleeping arrangements. And big, open, classy spaces for group meals and lounging was exactly what we wanted to wrap up from a weekend of bonding and stories. Will definitely look to stay here again next year and for more time!!
Our group loved the decor and all the fun things to find around the apartment. Very well appointed and a perfect place to gather and enjoy the local area.
We had a great time in Portland! Location is perfect - walking distance to the Mississippi District, great coffee shop on the corner, short taxi to downtown, easy access to freeway & airport. The house is well appointed - comfortably slept 10 women. We were there during a "heatwave" and some air conditioners started leaking - we called the owners and they were very responsive and quick to inspect/resolve the situation! Only recommendation would be to add more/bigger mirrors in the bathrooms/bedrooms! Maybe consider adding mirrored closet doors in bedrooms 🙂 Would recommend to others!
There were nine of us in Portland for five days for my son's wedding. We enjoyed the design and layout of this home. There was plenty of room. Two separate indoor gathering areas and the one outside(with a dartboard!) allowed us to gather either together or separately. Everyone was comfortable!
The home was close to the airport and convenient to all the sites we had planned for the weekend. We enjoyed the many shops and restaurants within walking distance, although the house was very quiet and our stay peaceful!
This house is amazing! If you want a great neighborhood, with enough space for a large group this is your ideal location! We were In Town for my daughter's graduation from the University of Portland, and I have a very large family. We rented both rental homes, the front break and the rear break! It was perfect! Could not pick a better location!
We brought a large group of business school alumni to visit Portland for the weekend (we do an annual trip), and wanted a place where we could all saddle up, spend time and mobilize easily. Most places (that fit a group of 15) were on the outskirts of the city but Front Break/Rear Break was in SUCH a cool area! A block or so away from a permanent food truck pod (think 8-10 separate trucks that are open every day), a few more blocks from breweries and bars and in an easily accessible area to downtown.
The houses were IMMACULATE, had everything we needed and absolutely made our weekend. The management team was also top-notch and worked with us on our arrival/departure times as well as early bag storage! Everyone was so excited by the house, the location and the communal nature it gave to the group. My only wish was that they have a grill put in so people could cook!
Absolutely wonderful place that I highly recommend!
We stayed here with ~10 high school students for a school trip to Portland. The place was great in so many ways. The upstairs and bedrooms had plenty of space for the students to sleep, 2 bathrooms, and a nice common space with beloved hammock chairs. The downstairs was super spacious and had room for us all to sit and eat. The kitchen area was spacious and had lots of equipment for cooking at the house. The Mississippi area is super cute and had lots of stores, restaurants, etc. (including a Blue Star Donuts which the kids were super excited about) all within walking distance. Overall, we thought it was a great place for us to stay.
The owners were courteous and responded to all my questions regarding the property promptly before my arrival. The place was modern, spacious, clean and suited our group of eight perfectly. We couldn't ask for a better location. It was short walk down to the Mississippi District with plenty of food and drink options. I already mentioned the place to my friends who are thinking about visiting Portland in the near future.
This house is located within steps of lots of fun coffee shops, bars, restaurants, and unique shops and only a short Uber away from downtown. We really enjoyed the beautiful disign of the house as well. Wonderful for a group trip to Portland.
My family and I had a wonderful stay at Rear Break! The location is private, but still extremely convenient - many awesome restaurants/bars/coffee shops, etc within easy walking distance, and quick access via car to downtown Portland. We could not say enough good things about the house itself - extremely clean, new, with all the amenities and a fun hip vibe. Street parking was easy (even for several cars). Everyone (all 10 of us) said it was the most outstanding Airbnb experience we've had so far, and we would stay there again any day! Highly recommend!
My family and I had an absolutely wonderful time in Portland. Rear Break is a fantastic house, perfect for large groups hoping to spend a lot of time together. The house was perfectly decorated and furnished for our needs. The location is perfect, only two blocks from the nightlife, shopping, and dining of the Mississippi District. You are also two doors down from the lovely Albina Press where you can go to get your morning coffee fix each day. The house is also only just around the corner from highway 5, making it easily accessible for any Portland adventures. We couldn't have asked for anything more, and we will definitely use this home again if we return to Portland.
This house was absolutely amazing and Michelle was a great host. The architecture is unique and the location is perfect for those whom want to be walking distance from restaurants, shops, etc. Be sure to check out the restaurants recommended by the host (especially Gravy for breakfast)!
"wow, you gotta see this place" ... the message displayed on my phone as I was driving down to Portland from Seattle to meet a few east coast friends for a guys. While I was stuck in Friday traffic Michelle and her staff kindly opened the doors to their brand new apartment and let my friends drop their bags. Five of us were staying at the place and it looked great from the photos but I didn't expect such a response from a bunch of guys who would be just as happy in a sleeping bag on the floor. Upon arriving I understood their excitement. The Rear Break Mississippi District is the perfect Portland spot. There isn't enough space in this review to cover all the designer touches they have put into the space. We spent the majority of time (while at the house) on the couches downstairs, standing around the kitchen island and on the stone patio outside. The downstairs setup is perfect for a large group that enjoys conversation. The upstairs, where the majority of bedrooms are located, is similarly laid out with a great social area, a fire place, and two lovely hammock chairs. Overall, this is one of the coolest places I've stayed....ever. Highly recommended for groups checking out Portland. The Mississippi District is where it's at!
