Fantastic property for a large group! by Kyler Smith 08/17/2018
We rented High Gear for a bachelor party, and it was gorgeous and spacious and we all loved it! I would highly recommend for any large group coming in to Portland -- it was great to be in walking distance to all the incredible things that Alberta had to offer.
Charming home in great neighborhood by Pamela Harris 08/06/2018
The place was clean and comfortable, with nearby places to walk to, to eat and shop. A small natural grocers and wine shop nearby. Tin Shed across the street had excellent food. The neighborhood seems to be undergoing a renovation. A lot of houses seem to be being remodeled (as this place was) and turning the neighborhood into a hip spot. Yoga studio nearby and bike shops, etc. The house was perfect for my husband and myself, my kids and grandkids.
Kitchen had everything we needed. Great dining table (even though we used the picnic table outside). beds and baths were great. Would stay here again. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful Home & Great Neighborhood by Claire Leffler 07/17/2018
We stayed in the upper level (aka "High Gear"). The decor is fantastic, the home was clean and ready for us upon arrival. Due to it's charming exterior, the home gets lots of attention from passersby, but that really was not a problem (minus the one peeper at the front door one night!). The home is located in a beautiful neighborhood with lots of shops and restaurants. I would be absolutely delighted to stay here again!
Super cool place! by Alicia Alvizo Craig 07/15/2018
We had a great time in a fun part of Portland. We were traveling with children and it was incredibly hot outside, however, the house was nice and cool and within walking distance of so much to do. I highly recommend this place!
Great location by Andy Galuska 07/03/2018
Well appointed house in an amazing location. Just blocks away from great coffee shops, breakfast, and a co-op grocery. However, while we were there the kitchen, living room, and one bedroom was swarming with sugar ants which got into our food. A little disappointing considering how nice the house was.
Beautiful in the best location by Sara Hodges 06/21/2018
Loved the house! It’s lovely and in a fantastic location. We had uninvited visitors (ants) crash the party, but otherwise it was perfect.
Great property! by Kevin Walther 06/08/2018
What a great location and property! We visited with another couple and our 4 children - the property was well appointed, the manager quickly responded to questions we had prior to and during our stay, there was a book full of local recommendations and coupons, etc. Great coffee and breakfast locations right across the street with additional options within walking distance. If my travels ever take me back to Portland, I would certainly stay at this property again.
Beautiful house, ideally situated. by Benjamin Edelhart 05/24/2018
The house is cozy and warm, full of thoughtful touches that made us feel at home. Our family of six never felt crowded and we were able to find everything we needed. That, paired with all of the fun and games to be found on Alberta, made for a great stay. Can’t wait to come back!
Loved the home!! by Jason Stevens 04/05/2018
We had a fantastic stay! All the accommodations were great and there were no major issues. One small issue was ants in the kitchen, but other than that, couldn't ask for a better setup!
Clean, cozy, and great interior decorating by Collin Hill 03/18/2018
Phenomenal location, very comfy and cozy house and the restaurants along Alberta street were life changing. Highly recommend it for someone trying to get the full Portland experience.
Great place! Perfect location! Great owner! by Ian Swift 03/15/2018
We had a great time during our stay. The house was great and the neighborhood is the best in the City!
Great place, great location by Ryan Duley 03/11/2018
Very convenient and clean spot!
Great location! Wonderfully fun house by Tami Gale 03/08/2018
House suited our girls weekend - comfy beds and good conversation space.
Sweet place to stay for vacation. by Kim Delagnes 03/01/2018
My girlfriends and I stayed at this home for four nights last week to celebrate two birthdays. The location is outstanding and the home is well stocked for cooking and hanging out. The check-in and check-out procedures were well organized and effortless. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this rental. Thank you!
Great stay! by Doug Cohen 02/03/2018
Really enjoyed our stay and the great host and communication! Beautiful place and perfect location.
Wonderful family stay by Karin Higgins 01/01/2018
The location and setup were absolutely perfect! We enjoyed every aspect of our stay in this great house EXCEPT for difficulty managing the heating. My husband and I slept upstairs and because it was winter, the weather was pretty cold. In order for the children and grandchildren sleeping downstairs to stay warm, we roasted upstairs. So we opened the window (which let in the considerable street noise), shut the damper in the bedroom and the bathroom and yet we had alternating bouts of chill from the window and excessive heat from the heater. Not good. If this issue can be successfully addressed, we would recommend the house to anyone any time.
Even better than the pictures by Lisa Heintz 12/30/2017
We loved our stay here. This house comfortably accommodated a group of us all arriving at different times well. What the pictures don't show is how great the location is for tourists who want to explore great shops and restaurants just outside your door!
Well organized house-great location by Nancy Scagliotti 12/23/2017
We had a great family Christmas visit. So convenient. The owners even delivered cookies on Christmas eve!
Cute house, fun area! by Jill Birkmeier 11/30/2017
We loved staying! House is very cute, with plenty of space. The neighborhood has tons of shopping and restaurants. My only small suggestion for improvement is with the key box: 1. The box itself is very difficult to open/close, and 2. It would be great to get 2 Keys. We had a group of 5 adults so an extra key would have made coming and going easier. We would stay again if ever in Portland.
Wonderful house in a great location by BInny Silverman 11/18/2017
My family, all 10 of us, stayed at the house. The location was great and the house worked so well for us. We loved the restaurants and shops that were so close. It was clean and well cared for. We liked the design and set up. The bunk beds worked out so well for all of my grand kids. And they loved the play area outside. Thanks for making our stay so comfortable.
Totally awesome house! by Lynette Fernandes 11/02/2017
I rented this house for my friends and I. We were visiting Portland for my friend's 30th birthday.
This house was totally amazing! Very cute, looked exactly like the pictures, it was well stocked, clean and comfortable.
The owners had a book of the story of the house and we loved it! So amazing to see how they built the house and how their dream came true. There was also a binder full of information about the house, about the area and about Portland. Very, very helpful.
The owners did mention they'd be up for grabbing a coffee and make new friends, but we had so much on our schedule, it would have been nice to meet them, they seemed like cool people.
The house itself is located in a really cool neighborhood, there's so many cool places to go, and so much good food around there as well.

Overall, we loved this house and if I come back to Portland with a group again I would definitely look into renting this house again.
Inviting home in a great neighborhood by Deborah Gisetto 10/29/2017
This house is spacious and wonderfully creative. The colors and design from the kitchen to the choosing of artwork and fabrics are warming and interesting. The house was immaculate and well cared for. We all felt immediately comfortable and impressed and next time we have an event in Portland will definitely rent again! The front porch is a great place to sit and chat and meet some great local people! A short cab ride will take you anywhere and a walk down the street holds interesting shops and we especially love that it is a quick walk to our favorite vegan restaurant/bar- The Bye and Bye. Spectacular drinks and amazing food for carnivores, vegans and vegetarians alike! Thank you for sharing this beautiful home
Great Location + Price by Gary Bladen 10/19/2017
After researching many options for a weekend getaway for 8-10 people, I landed on this gem. The location was perfect for our group, as the amenities in walking distance were exactly what we were looking for. Delicious food, breweries, wine bars, fun shops and a cozy, artsy atmosphere. The price is very reasonable, based on the other options that I considered on VRBO, Airbnb, etc.

The house is made up of two units, one upstairs and one downstairs. We stayed in the 4 bed/2 bath upstairs unit. The home was clean and tidy when we arrived and stocked with many essentials. The property manager was easy to communicate with and responsive. Can't say enough good things about this listing!
Great! by Crystal Kreager 10/02/2017
We really enjoyed our stay the house is modern and fun. The beds were super comfy and it was family friendly with lots of little extras for the kids. Also I loved that it is in a trendy little neighborhood with lots of great little restaurants and shops. I mean the house is right next door to a cupcake shop and sushi restaurant and right across the street from a coffee shop that had amazing coffee can’t get much better than that! We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely rent it again!
Delightful home and neighborhood. by Katherine Bidegaray 09/21/2017
The home accommodated the six adults and two children in our group perfectly. the shops and restaurants in the neighborhood were full of character. Not much street parking. Our rented Chevrolet Suburban was sideswiped by a hit and run driver, while parked in front of the house, which was frustrating but no fault of the homeowner. The management staff was helpful and courteous.
Fun family-friendly rental! by Judy Larsen 09/13/2017
Excellent location! Perfect for families! Loved that they planned for young children in their design!
Perfect by Susan Mullins 08/10/2017
This place is fabulous! We had 9 people and there was plenty of room. The location
can't be beat. We would stay there again.
Great location in the Alberta Arts District by Sue Omori 07/13/2017
Great location and great property. The common area is very comfortable and it was awesome to step right outside to lots of cute shops and restaurants. We would recommend side trips to Columbia Gorge and Cannon Beach. Beautiful! Portland traffic was kind of a drag...but didn't dampen our enthusiasm for the trip!
Fantastic visit to Portland by Melinda Elster 05/15/2017
Our family of 9 had a relaxing and comfortable visit to Portland staying in the High Gear house. The neighborhood is fun and has everything necessary for eating and entertainment. The house is full of thoughtful touches like games, outdoor eating area, and baby equipment. The bedrooms are comfortable and spacious with the right amount of furniture. We all enjoyed our time there and felt there was enough space for everyone to hang out.
Graduation week stay by Terrisa Ha 05/05/2017
There were 8 of us who flew up from LA to see my daughter graduate from U of Portland. The house was perfect for the grandfolks, us and my daughter. There was plenty of space and the house was very clean. As my daughter's friend said, " It looked like Portland." It was close to the school and we had some great photo moments with how the house was decorated. It was also nice that the house is on Alberta street so people could walk around the neighborhood and not feel confined even if they were not driving. The owner even stopped by while walking their dog.
All eight of us had a wondeedul time. Loved the place with all the decor!! by Cindy Szeto 04/03/2017
Hi Michelle,
I would recommend a mirror in the room downstairs with the double bed. Keep the compost outside to avoid attracting ants.
Perfect place for a family get-together by robert thomas 02/17/2017
Grandparents from Canada visited daughter and family with children aged 6,5, & 3. The house was perfect. Grandparents stayed upstairs with large bedroom and very modern bathroom. Family stayed on the main floor; kids especially liked the bunk beds. The kitchen was very well supplied, the table sat 8 persons, and everything was very clean.

The location is very good; across the street from a very good coffee shop with fresh baking daily. One block away is an excellent co-operative grocery store with mostly organic products. There are many eateries nearby although we ate in most meals.

It was easy to get to attractions like the children's Expo. There was a 24 hour gas station nearby and it was was 10- 15 minutes from the airport.

We have been to Portland many times and this was by far the nicest house we have rented. We will definitely go here again on future visits to see the grandchildren.

We cannot blame our hosts for the rain that came every day.
Great Location - Fabulous House by Julie Crispin 01/30/2017
I rented this space for 4 adults attending a seminar in Portland. They were all very comfortable and very much enjoyed the location - especially being near the food co-op! Thanks for a smooth and easy transaction.
Great House & Great Location by Dragan Radulovic 12/19/2016
Great House & Great Location!
Highly recommend!
Fresh, cozy & charming house for a group, in a fabulous neighborhood of yummy restaurants & shops by Danielle Hagen 12/01/2016
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday staying in High Gear! The house was spotless and bright, and decorated with lovely details. All the bedrooms were unique and comfortable and set up for a great night rest! The open living area is perfect for relaxed socializing, and it was great having space to all sit down together for breakfast and dessert at the big dining table. Our group had ambitions of cooking in the well appointed kitchen, but quickly discovered the numerous delicious food options moments from the doorstep, ranging from tasty street vendors to sushi with sake tasting. Also amazing coffee right across the street, and, the house favorite....fresh PIE shop!!! Our group of hungry cyclists brought home 4 spectacular pies from down the street - same shop has wonderful breakfast sandwiches. Visit the ice cream shop a couple blocks east to compliment the pie!

We had driven from Canada for the trip, so we had one vehicle with us. It was easy to find side street parking directly across the street. The location was super easy to navigate on and off the hwy, and getting downtown was very quick. We also had our CX bikes with us, and enjoyed sightseeing throughout the city on two wheels. Amazing old neighborhoods, beautiful parks, and great bike lanes and biking signage. Overall this was a wonderful experience, a fabulous house, and a fantastic neighborhood!!!
Fabulous location and experience by cynthia vavala 11/22/2016
Perfect house for a family gathering. Spacious with delightful touches, walking distance to great food. Tin shed is a breakfast must. Very convenient to downtown. Highly recommend this rental.
Aaweaome by jordanna shahraki 10/26/2016
The house was perfect for our group and the location was ideal. We walked to breakfast and dinner and had great food. Alberta Street was charming and the house had all the comforts of home.
Beautiful, Clean & close to everything by Virali Sheth 10/15/2016
This house is so well done, you could see the efforts taken to decorate it right. Its extremely clean and has all the modern amenities along with all the supplies you will need. The beds/linens were comfortable and the kitchen was very well stocked. The manager/owner was prompt and sweet in replying to all our queries.

The best part about this house is the location. There are so many great places to eat, shop and chill just right outside your door.
Absolutely perfect place! by Ann Gilbert 09/22/2016
This house is beautiful and everything we expected and more! Very close to great restaurants and most is within walking distance. We enjoyed our stay at high gear very much and would definitely stay here again!
Perfect house and location for our group. by Edward Strong 09/05/2016
We were having a family gathering, first in Portland and then in Seaside. This Portland property was just what we were looking for and we couldn't be happier. Beautiful house and in a great neighborhood with lots to do and places to eat and drink right there. We had a very small plumbing issue which was fixed within the hour. We would definitely stay there again the next time we come to Portland.
Absolutely perfect by Mary Jones 08/24/2016
We came to Portland for our sons wedding. The place was perfect we couldn't ask for better. We would recommend this home to anyone of our friend. Thank you for the great experience. The Jones Family
Lovely home in a walkable neighborhood by Brianne Duncan 08/14/2016
Our stay at this house was absolutely perfect! Free parking on side streets, nice and clean accommodations, coffee and breakfast across the street, accessible to main interstates; exactly what we needed. I would definitely stay here again!!
We enjoyed the neighborhood and diversity of food choices. by Ali McMorrow 07/31/2016
High gear was the perfect place for us. Loved the big table for meals and games. It was awesome that there was a high chair and port-a-crib available. Parking was easy to find in the neighborhood. The games and toys in the yard were perfect for all of our children. We would have liked a gate to the yard and a baby gate for the stairs inside. We all loved it. We had all we needed in the kitchen and loved the before and after photo book. If shift rentals were all over the country you'd make a killing. Well done!
Such a Great House! by Maria McKay 07/19/2016
We were in town from Florida visiting family in nearby neighborhoods. The house and location were so ideal. The house is roomy and the open concept living/dining/kitchen was perfect for visiting and hanging out with the family (it never felt crowded.) The house is quite tastefully decorated with beautiful artwork and warm colors. Anytime we wanted to "get away" we just stepped out the door to great little coffee shops and restaurants. Our favorite was The Petite Provence french bakery just a short walk away! Parking our car rental was sometimes tricky but we never parked more than a block away. We would love to stay there again when we return!
Heart off Alberta St by Linda Collette 07/10/2016
Our family (ages 4-60+) just spent 3 days in this property and couldn't have been happier.
The home is comfortable and the owners provide every comfort of home. With its location on Alberta St, you are walking distance to eateries and shops as well as as mass transit if you wish to travel elsewhere in Portland. The owners provided a plethora of information on Portland's activities. We heartily recommend this property.
Great Location!! by Heather Hardesty 07/06/2016
My husband and I stayed here with a group of 5 friends. Plenty of rooms and space for everyone to have their own privacy but a lot of great common spaces where we could all hangout (inside and outside). In walking distance to a lot of great food, craft beer at Great Notion and coffee right across the street. Never had a problem finding parking. Everyone loved the house. The pictures are spot on and we would recommend staying here. Beats a hotel!

Checkin and checkout process was simple and easy.
Beautiful, clean, and cleverly decorated, in a safe yet fun neighborhood. by Melissa Abbott 06/09/2016
We had a delightful stay at High Gear for our daughter's college graduation. The house was well appointed, charming, and large enough for our party of 12. We were provided with plenty of maps, menus, and even coffee, cream and a bottle of wine to start our weekend celebration. I would definitely recommend this house and neighborhood for any family or friend gathering!
Loved this property!!! by Jan Lawrence 05/07/2016
We loved our stay at Shift. We rented both High Gear and Low Gear for two weeks with a church group in town for the United Methodist Church's General Conference which was at the Convention Center a few miles away. The property was perfect for a group of adults who wanted a place to relax in the evenings other than a hotel. The neighborhood was great with lots of restaurants and watering holes. Its proximity to all of Portland could not be beaten.

I would not hesitate to return to this property or to recommend it to friends traveling to Portland. The property was clean and well-maintained. The only time we had to call the owner they responded immediately. This was my first experience using VRBO and I will definitely do it again.
Great location for family fun by null null 05/02/2016
we were 6 in this house in May. Had perfect weather... Amazing location... Plenty of space... Well equipped. We've stayed in many vacation rentals and wouldn't recommend them all - however we would happily recommend this one. A few things were not perfect. Sheets and towels not so soft.... The beds not that great but fine for lighter weight people
And the air conditioner would be an issue upstairs if very warm - maybe a fan up there would help... Beds in most rentals not that great so this was typical of places with this type of furniture (ikea) no complaints from the kids... They loved everything about the house. I would stay again.. Just passing on the info if they want to upgrade a bit. Also having a phone number that someone in charge gets during your stay would be helpful as we tried to reach owners and couldn't ...this may be easy as I'm sure there's a number but the one on the website doesn't get answered... As for the location... Alberta arts district is fun and lively - noisy outside but not inside. Nicely renovated and charming. Thanks for stay and the bottle of wine.
best rental to date! by JANET LEE 04/20/2016
The home was amazing. I was like goldilocks in everyone's bed and each bed was super comfortable. The house was decorated so beautiful. We all loved taking photos of the tricycle hung with christmas lights. The big long dining table was a great place for us to gather and spend time with each other. The house came fully stocked with all the kitchen essentials, the bathrooms had hair dryers and shampoos/soap, there was also an ironing board and iron if needed. Everyone had a peaceful night sleep.

The location was fantastic. The house was on a popular street with many shops and well rated restaurants that you could walk out to. There's a great small coffee shop DIRECTLY across the street and a well rated and popular breakfast place right next to the coffee shop. We all agreed that we would stay back here when we'd visit Portland again.

There was an issue with one of the toilets, but management and the owner were EXTREMELY quick to respond and fixed it right away for us.
What a great location.... walking distance to food and shops by Josh Smith 04/10/2016
Loved the Alberta Arts District! Stayed for a week for a wedding and 30th birthday. First time staying in the area and we were not disappointed. The house was very clean and quiet for being on a busy street which we wanted to be close to everything. A coffee shop and several restaurants right across the street made it very convenient. Everything was in walking distance. The owner found out it was one of our birthdays and sent cupcakes to the door. We will definitely come back and use these owners again.
We all loved, loved it. Great location and great food nearby. by Donna Raffer 03/23/2016
Only recommendation would be to be more specific regarding garbage. We would have happily put cans out but didn't know where to put them. Otherwise, were very happy with house.
Perfect Portland experience! by Joanie Brotman 03/13/2016
This property was perfect for our group. I am a college counselor and led 7 high school students and another chaperone from Hawaii on a trip to the Pacific Northwest to look at colleges for spring break. In the past I've done this trip and stayed in hotels, moving every couple of days. This was SO much better. We were like a big family and it was so nice to come "home" after a long day of touring colleges and exploring Oregon. The house is in a GREAT location! It was the perfect introduction to all the wonderful quirkiness of Portland. The amazing coffee, literally across the street, just a few steps away from our front door, was a terrific bonus! There were two little things to be aware of upstairs, the sliding door to the bedroom gets stuck closed and needs quite a bit of jiggling to get it open, also the fold out futon upstairs has a very strange large bump right in the middle of the bed. Otherwise, everything was perfect and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wanted to see why everyone loves Portland!
BEST WEEKEND OF MY LIFE by Lisa Holland 02/10/2016
We rented the High Gear/Low Gear combo for our wedding tribe from Dallas. It was *PERFECTION* Perfect location, large communal spaces, room/queen beds for ALL! Several meals were made/shared here while lifelong memories were created. We will be talking about this house and Valentines Wedding Weekend for years to come. THANK YOU for helping us celebrate and making us look SO GOOD with our friends! We will ALL BE BACK AGAIN! XOXO
Perfect place for large groups by Faith Lisle 01/20/2016
We stayed here last weekend and rented out both High Gear and Low Gear. They are in one building, comprised of 3 stories of modern loveliness. As a group of 14, I was concerned that we would feel cramped or that there would not be enough restrooms for the group. My concerns were quickly disregarded when we arrived. Both units had ample kitchen and living spaces and there were enough restrooms that we all had an opportunity to get ready in the mornings. The location is fantastic! Right across the street from Tin Shed (yummy breakfast!) and two doors down from a cute cupcake place. There were lots of shops, bars and restaurants on Alberta so it was easy to find a place to hang out. I would definitely recommend these rentals to anyone! The owner/manager did a great job on the renovations and was very easy to work with during our stay. A+!
Wonderful stay in Portland! by LeAnn Suhn 12/28/2015
Wow what a beautiful and spacious house for seven adults, three children age one, two and five. The location was close to nice shops and restaurants so we could walk to most places. If the weather would have been a bit warmer the kids enjoyed playing in the yard and gave them some space to run off some energy. Everything was clean and welcoming. I would highly recommend this place and when we come back to Portland I would rent this place again. Great place!
Family wedding by julie moore 11/04/2015
We stayed at High Gear for a family wedding. The unit was lovely and spacious enough to accommodate 8 adults and 3 children. The location was awesome - a vibrant neighborhood close to everything and nearly every meal was unique and inexpensive thanks to the wonderful selection of street vendors. My only complant would be that the group using the unit below were obviously night owls :). I am sure it was due to insulation or just construction because they were talking and laughing in very moderate voices, but in the downstairs bedrooms we were able to follow their conversations until 3:00 am. So if you are coming and hoping to get a good nights sleep bring earplugs!
The best thing in Portland since food trucks by Gretchen lohman 04/10/2015
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Shift house. The house was extremely spacious, the location was perfect and the host was very accommodating to all of our needs. We had a blast hanging out at the house and walking around Alberta street. Of the many places I've stayed in Portland, this one was my favorite! I would recommend the Shift house to anyone and plan on returning again soon!
Great location by Jody Johnson 01/23/2015
Rented High Gear for a birthday getaway for 9 adults and it was great! Great location and lots of room. The neighborhood had lots of family and kids and was a fun place to be right in the middle of. We all really enjoyed the neighborhood and proximity to some of the other things in Portland we wanted to do. One of the more adventurous couples walked to the Kennedy School (the rest of us drove). We cooked our own meals and everything we needed was there. Would definitely stay there again.
Girls Weekend! by Heather Post 01/09/2015
What a fantastic place! Perfect size for a girls weekend! There was enough space for everyone to sleep comfortably, the Kitchen was perfect size and the dining room table was great for dinner and game playing. Loved how we were in walking distance from shops, food, drinks, you name it. Would rent again in a minute!
California Renter from the Sierra Foothills by Gay Callan 11/25/2014
We had such a great time renting on Alberta Street. The size was perfect for our family, the location was such fun and the home was absolutely wonderful for our needs. It is warm, comfortable and spacious. The kitchen is fully stocked with pans, the linens are supplied, parking is available and the whole feel of the home makes you want to stay and enjoy. Even though we spent most of our time exploring Portland, I recommend this wonderful home to all. The price is right and there is so much to see and do in the Alberta area. Thanks so much for our stay and I look forward to returning!
Second visit.... by Sharon Isaacson 11/21/2014
We returned to High Gear this fall but this time with 3 other couples. We were in Portland to see Fleetwood Mac at MODA. This home is so much fun and we spent more time in the neighborhood on this trip and found it even more interesting! Everyone raved about the house! The fabric store across the street, the restaurants, the bookstore and toy store for kids, farmers market etc etc etc. WONDERFUL! (just don't rent when we need it). 🙂
Family Fun by Roberta Rott 10/06/2014
We were in town for a wedding at the Kennedy School. Comfortable, fun place for 6 adults, one teenager and one pre-teen. Other family members staying in hotels in the area stopped by "our place" just to hang out and enjoy Alberta Street. Great restaurants (breakfasts? all fantastic at Tin Shed, Pine State Biscuits, Helsers, Waffle Window), Great local shops all within walking distance. (thanks for the discounts!) I was concerned about parking since we had multiple cars, but had no problems. Very quiet at night. Family corn hole tournament was a highlight. Highly recommend.
Beautiful House and Awesome Location by Kent Kirkland 10/03/2014
My buddies and I rented both the upper and lower units of Shift for our annual guys trip and couldn't have been happier with it - beautiful house, loved the location right on Alberta St - so close to coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, wine stores etc. - very reasonable price. Have nothing but good things to say about this place. Highly recommend.
Wonderful house, fantastic location, awesome experience! by Ann Bawa 09/29/2014
Six of us (including 1 child) stayed at High Gear and we were so sad to leave. What a great house in a perfect location. The house had everything we needed - we were all very pleased. Alberta Street is such a fun place to be. We stayed in downtown Portland before and after our stay at the house and even when we weren't at the house we found ourselves coming back to the Alberta area. We took easy day trips from the house to the Columbia River Gorge area and the Coast. We loved having laundry facilities at the house (though I would note for others with kids that the laundry closet is in the same room with the bunk bed so we had to work around the kid's sleep schedule in order to get laundry done). There is a nice park with a playground nearby and so many great restaurants and coffee places in walking distance (including a coffee shop literally across the street). We would love to rent this house again!
Post STP stay by Sharon 07/13/2014
Ended our family vacation (ages 6 months to 62) at Shift-High Gear. Two of us had just finished the Seattle to Portland and we all wanted to stay put for a couple of nights. Very fun home....great design...great location! With this as home base we visited with friends who live in Portland, ate at wonderful restaurants, visited the zoo (easy drive) and played in the wonderful yard at High Gear! We do hope to rent again.
Forget about the hotel. by Michael Taylor 03/05/2014
The house was great and the beds were very comfortable. The upstairs sink and downstairs toilet didn't seem to drain well, but it never caused us any real problems. The house is in a good location to have access to other fun things to do. The decor and design in the house was very warm an inviting.
Wonderful! by Sally Burrows 02/13/2014
What a great house! So comfortable and clean! We had 6 adults and had no problem with sharing the rooms, bathrooms and kitchen. Overall great experience. We will definitely be staying again! Oh, and the location is fantastic!!
Great for Groups by Amy Mu 02/06/2014
I rented both High Gear and Low Gear last weekend. Due to the winter storm, we ended spending a lot more time at the house than originally planned and it was so nice to have a clean, modern and comfortable home away from home. There was plenty of common space to hang out in during the blizzard. There are many restaurants, coffee shops, and cute shops within a few blocks.
HAPPY HOME by Anne Leslie Stevens 01/20/2014
Shift High Gear is terrific and awesome and "the bomb"! The pictures are accurate so trust them. If you like what you see, that is what you get. (Well, the cow has shades now but let's not quibble!) We have rented a bazillion vacation homes on the East coast and this one is as good as they get. And, even better, Jen is an absolute jewel to work with. She is certainly renter focused being timely in her responses and kind in her service. If you are going to Portland you will be happy with your staying here.
Armstrong family by Mary Armstrong 12/22/2013
We had 4 adults and 2 children stay and enjoy Christmas week. The entry was good for shoes and coats. This living area had plenty of seating and our grandson liked the coffee table for his train and tracks! The dinning table was wonderful - large enough for an extended family dinner. The kitchen is a little small and missing some things - spatula, ice cream scoop, more regular glasses, potato masher, mixer, and more large serving bowls. The bedrooms and beds were comfortable. Bathrooms roomy and well supplied. We missed having a tub for bathing our two year old grandson.
Great house for a family visit by Edwin Milam 12/07/2013
The location suited us because it is close to our family member's home in Portland. We wanted a place where everyone could hang out together, eat, and visit. The kitchen is lovely. Plenty of dishes, pots and pans, open to the great room, large dining table. Entirely comfortable. Great grocery a block away. The new moms shopped at a fabric store across the street. The wine enthusiast found Willamette Valley wine within a few blocks. The property manager is friendly and helpful in answering our questions and concerns. Everyone had a good time and I will try to rent it again when we return.
One of THE best rentals I have ever stayed in by Shawn Schmieding 08/30/2013
My friends and I rented the upstairs & downstairs as we were all in Portland for a wedding.

This rental is amazing. Seriously.

First, is it in a great location in the heart of the NE Arts District (where there are plenty of places to eat, drink and shop). Plus, you can feel that a lot of love and care went into the décor and design of the house (both the upstairs and the downstairs). Lots of interesting touches, state of the art appliances, and a cool charm to the whole house. All of this, and it's very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend this be your rental in Portland if you are thinking of visiting.
Big group; great accommodations and location! by Pamela Camfield 08/08/2013
We were a large group in town celebrating a wedding, few of us having stayed for extended periods of time under the same roof (even though we're all family, which may have been more challenging). The location couldn't have been better. (It was so thoughtful of Alberta neighborhood to arrange their annual street fair during our stay!) I understand that the house now has AC, but the lack of same during our stay wasn't problematic. There was a bit of noise (construction) at night and early morning, and Michelle, having mysteriously heard about it, delivered earplugs and wine the next day! Very thoughtful. The arrangement of sleeping spaces made us feel appropriately separated. The kitchen was well appointed. Everyone in our group (California, Chicago, Michigan, Oregon, Colorado) loved this house, and we would return without hesitation. Many thanks, Michelle!
Shift home on Alberta - Great place by Henning vonHaefen 07/04/2013
This home is very nice, updated and is as described! Everything is very functional and includes a grill along with some outside playground type equipment. Very kid friendly in an up and coming area of town.

It's right in the Alberta arts district and in walking distance to many great restaurants with food trucks in either direction. There's a Whole Foods Market right down the street on 15th headed south which is very convenient to the home.

The only downside is that the restaurant across the street gets their food delivery very early in the morning so be forewarned about that if you sleep with the windows open. That was a surprise!

Great home and recommended! We stayed with a total of 9 people and the home easily accommodated our group.
Fun on Alberta St by Larry Sweeney 06/26/2013
We rented "High Gear" for a week June 2013 in Portland for our daughters wedding. The place is on Alberta St, and close to many shops and restaurants as well as food trucks, which we thoroughly enjoyed. A few of us eat gluten free and were impressed by the breakfasts at the Tin Shed. I was most impressed by how clean and well maintained this property was. We had four couples and my two grand-children. My grand-children thoroughly enjoyed the "Beehive" and the teeter totter. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners during the "last Thursday Festival". They were lovely people and very helpful with everything. They even brought us some fans for the house since it was probably the hottest weather Portland had ever seen (in the 90's everday). I would and have recommended this property to all who would visit Portland, Oregon.
Loved it! by Aprile Kennedy 05/19/2013
This place is great! We rented both High Gear and Low gear for our company while in town for a conference at the Convention Center. We had rented a car, and getting to the CC was super easy and straight forward. SUCH AN AWESOME AREA!! the food in a 3 block radius is ridiculous!! the apartments had a great vibe/style to them and were very comfortable. I'd highly recommend, and will stay here again!!
Book this place today! by Jude 04/10/2013
5 Stars all the way! The house is amazing and the location is perfect, just seconds from an I5 on ramp and off ramp, so getting to the other parts of Portland is a breeze. That being said, why would you want to go anywhere else but the art district. You have amazing food and spirits just steps from your front door. The house, like the area, is fun and hip as well as being comfortable and modern. The attention to decorative detail and overall aesthetics is exceptional and could only be accomplished by an architectural artist.

From start to finish our experience with Michelle (the owner) was relaxing and natural. She was more than accommodating and made the check in and check out process as easy as easy can be. We could not have asked for a better trip to Portland and this rental was the foundation of that happiness. If you want space, beauty, and comfort don't look any further, BOOK THIS PLACE TODAY!
The best VRBO I have ever stayed in... by Jessica 03/28/2013
5 stars all the way. I've stayed in VRBO's, AirBnB's in Paris, Austin, and now Portland - and Michelle's residence is above and beyond. This place is spacious, located in a happening area, clean, in great condition and well stocked. I stayed here in late March 2013 for 3 nights, with a party of 8 in the High Gear(upper unit with 4 bedrooms) and we were all comfortable and very happy.

Location: NE Alberta St. - best location with Pine State Biscuits, Waffle Window, Barista, Salt'n'Straw Ice Cream, Radar, Helser's, Petite Provence. Tons of great eats, drink and cute shops to check out. There is a Whole Foods and a Safeway within 5-10 minutes drive. This is a local, artsy area with tons to check out.

Condition: Very well kept - she clearly invests in all the furnishings, fixtures, etc. Nicest residence at a very reasonable rental rate. The kitchen has basically everything you'd need and it is in such great condition.

Space: We had 8 adults using 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms - enough space for everyone to do their own thing. If you had a couple kids with you, they would fit comfortably as well as there is a futon in the open area on the 2nd floor.

I cannot wait to come back to Portland again and without hesitation, I will be staying here. And so will everyone else in my party whenever we visit again. Thank you, Michelle!
Great Place to Stay by Rita badalamenti 03/21/2013
This place is beautiful, close to lots of great places, and the owner is a joy to work with.
Perfect house, location and area! by Wyna 03/02/2013
Just spent a weekend in Portland and found this lovely rental house to stay at. Located in the Alberta arts district it was close to a lot of nice shops and great eats. Only a short bike from downtown, it was also easy to get to other parts of Portland.

My friends and I (9 total) fit nicely in the high gear which is the upper level of the house. The house was absolutely beautiful, modern and Eco-friendly. The owner left us maps, coupons, and suggestions to nearby places which really helped our trip planning. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return again.
Love Our Stay! by Anna 02/16/2013
My friends and I loved our stay at Michelle's beautiful rental home. It was very comfortable and spacious and in a fantastic neighborhood. Michelle was very accommodating and always had a quick reply to any question. I would definitely rent this house or any other spot from Michelle again and hope to do so in the future.
Exceeded expectations! by Yvonne 02/16/2013
Exceeded expectations! The photos are 110% accurate - the house is even more beautiful/comfortable in person! We (6 adults) could not have asked for a better home for our weekend getaway. BEDROOMS: With 3 queen beds, 1 full, 1 twin, and 2 couches - so much sleeping space, I think the house could accommodate at least 9 comfortably! BATHROOMS: shampoo, conditioner, body wash and towels - nice touches, especially because it's a pain flying with toiletries! KITCHEN: Perfection. Do you like your coffee from a filter or french press? This house has both! Also, the kitchen is stocked - you have all the utensils you need to cook a dinner for 8! But why cook when you are literally 3 blocks away from restaurants (my favorite meal in Portland was dinner at Aviary), coffee shops, bars, and food trucks (grilled cheese!)?! Michelle - we made a promise that we'll be back. You know where we'll be staying!

Awesome! by Arnold 02/02/2013

Michelle's place is awesome, and I would definitely rent from her again, the next time I come to Portland. She's such a perfect host, and the house was excellent. It was clean, had all the amenities, and was close to everything we wanted to do. Thanks, Michelle!
Sorry to say it...but this place is AMAZING! by Angela Stamps 02/01/2013
I am afraid that if I post how amazing this rental is it will be too hard to book again! I could not imaging staying in a more beautiful, perfectly located, amazingly decorated home!

I have stayed in many VRBO properties and hands down this has been my absolute favorite so far! Beautiful area with some of the best places Portland has to offer within walking distance. You can honestly find something for any taste in less than a five minute walk.

I am sure you will enjoy your stay as much as we did!
Out of a catalog! by Monica 01/12/2013
This place is amazing...I mean AMAZING!!! It looks like a house right out of a catalog. It's SO nice, I didn't want to leave! If I could live there, I would...it's THAT nice! Home has everything you'll need to feel comfortable while you’re staying in PDX. The rooms are super cute and the bathrooms are gorgeous. House is location right in a pose, cute area of PDX so lots of things to do around the area. You don't even have to drive anywhere; there are so many things to do within walking distance. Michelle is a great host. She's very quick to reply and very accommodating. She was out of town during my stay in PDX, but she was still very fast with her communication…very impressive. I can't wait until my next trip to PDX. I will for sure be renting this location again. I LOVE IT. If I could give it 100+ stars I would!

Modern, clean, and artistic! by Anne 01/02/2013
We really enjoyed our stay at Michelle's house in Portland. We're an extended family of 7 adults and it worked out perfectly. It was modern, spacious and clean with some fun design decor (the tricycle chandelier was a highlight). There were more amenities than you typically find in a rental house like washer/dryer with detergent provided, DVD player, ironing board & iron, a speaker that plugged into an iPhone. The house is located in a great area, and we took full advantage by walking to brunch places, exploring the cute shops, bakeries and coffee/tea spots during our stay. (we put our names in at the Tin Shed across the street and then hung out at the house during the 30 minute wait - quite a perk!) Michelle was very responsive and friendly and made sure we were well taken care of.
Perfect location by Jamie Dallas 12/15/2012
This home had all the bells and whistles... Very clean and modern. The location was perfect. My guest and I will be comming back to this home again. Great communication with the owners even with short notice.
