We converged on Portland from Seattle, Ann Arbor, Cincinnati and Palo Alto. We didn't let rain, snow, ice nor cancelled aircraft keep us from our holiday get together. And we were overjoyed with the rental. The apartment was spacious and we never felt cramped even with the snow and ice in Portland the first few days that kept us inside more than we expected.
The kitchen was perfect for preparing our holiday meals with a large dining room table where we could eat and laugh together. The living room provided the space for our traditional December one-per night watching of this years release of the Great British Baking Show.
Loved the neighborhood, and the city. Great options for food and drink, and the people were always friendly. Portland is a winner! We will certainly try to visit again, and would most definitely try to stay in one of the Shift Vacation rentals.
The Ready-Barr family had not been together since Christmas 2018. Since one daughter lived in Portland, we decided to rent a small house for six nights to act as a base camp for the four family members visiting from Albuquerque in mid October, 2022. That house happened to be the Low Gear portion of the Alberta house. This accommodation proved to be very clean and an outstanding selection. The house consisted of three bedrooms with super comfortable beds, one and a half bathrooms with a very nice shower, a well furnished large open space for family meetings and watching TV, a large solidly built table to have dinner around and a very well equipped kitchen for the food and drink prep. Low Gear happened to be in a funky neighborhood with lots of eating out possibilities and a very well stocked Co-op grocery on the next corner. We were concerned about parking our rental car on the street in this busy commercial part of town, but always found an open spot within 100 yards of the Low Gear. We were super impressed going through the photo album in the unit and seeing how Michelle and Klaas had remodeled an old run down single story house to create this beautiful three story Alberta house. They actually raised the entire house up about four feet creating enough space underneath the main house to construct a garden level apartment, i.e. the Low Gear unit. This unorthodox design and construction technique allowed Shift Vacation Rental to create a beautiful living space. We plan to stay with Shift Vacation Rental on our next visit to Portland. Well done Michelle and Klaas !!
Our family stayed in Front Break, Rear Break, and Low Gear for a wedding weekend and it was perfect. The Mississippi houses are well-outfitted with all amenities (including coffee grinder) and are close walking distance to restaurants, while the Alberta house's big advantage is its walking distance to Alberta Co-op grocery store. We loved being able to gather the folks from Front Break into Rear Break for a large gathering of both houses; the space was great for this. The power went out in Low Gear after heavy winds and they alerted us of this and brought over candles and flashlights right away. We also met Klaas and he was very sweet. You can tell the owners care about their guests' satisfaction.
We decided on a long weekend trip to Portland and Rear Break proved to be the ideal accommodation. This spacious, beautiful home provided more than enough room for the nine people in our party. The full kitchen and dining area served as our main gathering place. Comfortable beds, three bathrooms and laundry facilities -- this really is an ideal home away from home. Michelle and Klaas are excellent hosts who take great care to make sure their guests have a memorable stay at their immaculate, welcoming home.
We had a fabulous time in Portland! The rental house in the Mississippi District was perfect for 6 adults and one infant. The host was so accommodating with our arrival schedule, and the house is was perfect with 2 bedrooms upstairs and 2 downstairs. The weather allowed us to use the outdoor areas provided, and I rocked my grandson using the front porch rocker everyday. The location was perfect: groceries were close, easy access to the freeways, wonderful restaurants within walking district as well as a park and rose garden just blocks away. We would definitely stay here again!
Love this property and the back house, cute, tidy, and close to everything. We had such a good time and love the outdoor space too.
We rented the whole Alberta house for 11 college friends. 6 guests in the upstairs unit and 5 guests in the lower unit. The location and house is exceptional! Always had hot water for showers; we could never hear the upstairs guests when in the lower unit; comfy beds; and great amenities all around! You can't beat the location too - we spent so much time on Alberta Street just walking to all the retail stores, breweries and restaurants.
Flawless stay. We had a group of 6 in for a golf trip. Check-in was seamless, the beds were comfortable, the outdoor space was aspirational, and the furnishings inside were great. Highly recommend.
Me and my family really enjoyed our stay. The owners and property manager were kind and responsive. You can really tell that the strive to make sure you enjoy the home and your stay. We really appreciated the details of the house and the welcome gifts (coffee, wine, and cookies) they provided. The kitchen was well stocked and the house was very clean. It felt like home and I will look to stay at Shift again in the future. The home is in a wonder neighborhood close to several great restaurants and shops. Definitely worth checking out!!!
No complaints. Had everything we needed and was central to lots of restaurants and markets. Our little boys had good fun on the tulip seats and rocking bench. If we make it out to Portland again, we'll be looking up Shift.
